Biography

“As far back as I can remember, I have always loved music and I hope I always will.
I started playing classical guitar at the age of 7 and the electric guitar soon followed. I travelled extensively as a musician and singer both in the UK and abroad exploring a wide
range of musical styles.
Whilst playing guitar in ‘Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ I worked with an old school chum Gordy Marshall. We went on to form the band Sahara. Our first album ‘Observation’ was released in 1986. Little did we know that 27 years later we would create our own show ‘Reflections of A rock and Roll Tour’!
My time as a Session Singer in London led to many exciting ventures including ‘Quadrophenia’ with The Who in London and New York, writing with Steve Farris of Mr Mr in LA and meeting Rick Fenn of 10cc.
Rick and I wrote and produced material under our band name Circle of 4 before going on to write the musical ‘Robin Prince of Sherwood’. ‘Robin’ was commissioned and produced by my great friend Bill Kenwright and enjoyed success in London’s West End as well as on tour. I played the Sheriff of Nottingham in London at the Piccadilly Theatre and loved every minute of it!
I was enchanted by the theatre and still am so when I was asked to play Roy Orbison in the ‘Roy Orbison Story’, I jumped at the chance. After Two West End seasons and three tours I played Roy again in the London production of ‘Four Steps to Heaven.’
For over two decades, I have been proud to sing, play, record and tour the world with my good friend, the legendary Sir Cliff Richard.

When I was asked to join the Hollies in 2004 it was a huge honour. The Hollies are part of Rock and Roll History and the past nine years working alongside Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliott have been very special. It has been a pleasure to record three new albums with the band, ’Staying Power’, ‘Then, Now and Always’ and ‘We Got The Tunes’ on the EMI label. The Hollies have been touring for 50 years and we continue to play to sell-out audiences both here and abroad. It is a privilege to be part of such a special institution!

I have recently completed a tour of my own show, ’Peter Howarth - Unplugged’. I describe it as an evening of unique acoustic arrangements of well-known hits alongside some fabulous new material.
I have loved putting together my own acoustic show and have drawn a huge amount of inspiration from my fantastic writing partners Tony and Gaynor Sadler. Working with two such talented writers and producers is exciting. Our creative journey over the last few years has led to our new album ‘Evermore - Songs of Love and Inspiration’. A new arrangement of the Hollies classic ‘He Ain’t Heavy’ and a reworking of ‘Psalm 23’ are embellished by the moving sounds of the Inspiritual Singers and feature on the EP which is available now prior to the album release date in January.
I enjoyed singing ‘Psalm 23’ on BBC’s ‘Songs of Praise’ and it has been played on BBC Radio 2’s ‘Good Morning Sunday’. Another track from the album ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ featured on the same programme to celebrate Holy Cross Day.

I love singing, writing music, playing guitar and performing. I have played to so many wonderful people and feel truly blessed to be doing what I love”.
